PRESENTATION

 

The commune Saelele is located in southwestern Teleorman County, in the Olt Meadow, 18 km away from Turnu Măgurele, in the direction Turnu - Slatina, 20 km away from Corabia and 70 km away from Alexandria.

The territory of the commune is crossed from north to south by the brook Sâi and is bordered by the commune Segarcea Vale, to the east and southeast, the commune Călmăţui to the northeast, the commune Lunca, to the south, and the commune Uda Clocociov, to the west and north.

Having 1880 inhabitants and 641 households, the village Saelele was mentioned for the first time in an official document in 1475. The village Pleasov, with 890 inhabitants and 259 households, preserves traces of human habitation from the III century BC. The archaeological research conducted on the banks of the brook Sâi has brought to light ruins of an ancient Geto-Dacian fortress.

Road access

The county road 546 connects the commune to the town Alexandria, the county residence, on the route Saelele – Lunca – Segarcea – Liţa – Turnu Măgurele, and the national road 52, makes the connection with Turnu Măgurele, on the route Turnu Măgurele – Crângu – Furculeşti – Alexandria, which is approximately 70 km long.

Infrastructure

The electric power network covers 94% of the commune’s needs.

The landline telephone services are provided by the national operator, by means of a 300 posts PBX. The main mobile phone operators have good coverage in the commune.

The cable television network has 800 subscribers.

The commune has two human dispensaries and a veterinary clinic.
